Why I Always Ask About Allergies First

May 18, 2026 · 2 min read

It takes ten seconds and it's the most important part of every single face I paint.

Before I pick up a brush, I ask two things: any known allergies, and any sensitive skin I should know about. Most of the time the answer is no and we move straight into picking a design. But every so often it's a yes, and that quick question changes what I reach for.

My paint is hypoallergenic and FDA-compliant, which covers the vast majority of situations. But "hypoallergenic" isn't the same as "allergy-proof," and I'd rather ask an extra question than find out the hard way.

It's a small habit, but it's the one I'm least willing to skip, even on a busy day with a long line.
